I'm a software engineer who just graduated and is now working in the field of video game development. Awesome, right! Don't try to talk me into spilling the beans about what game I'm working on. My lips are sealed! I'm a 24 years old guy and from as far as I can remember, I loved playing video games ...

Croak!! Help me!

Another deal from NintendoAge. While I was looking to seal my last deal, a user offered me package deal I've been looking for for a while. I finally put my hands on a game I haven't played in ages. It cost me almost 100$ for that game only, so we can say I really wanted it. I got three games out of the deal, all in excellent condition, or almost.

Game C I B Bought Value
Super Castlevania IV 9 10 8 $90.00 $80.00
Star Fox 3 6 8 $30.00 $35.00
Earthworm Jim 2 10 9 8 $30.00 $30.00

SNES CIB Games

Clearly, the highlight of this is the Castlevania game. It's the original version with the instructions in color! I paid a little bit more for it, but I really wanted that game. So many memories. The other two came in the package deal. The Earthworm Jim was in mint condition, but sadly the box got a bit damaged during shipping. It now has a little dent on the side. Also, the Star Fox cartridge has the back sticker ripped. I can get a new one easily so it's not a problem.

Wow, it's been a while since my last post! I actually bought few games since then, but I've been really busy lately and did not get much time to write about those purchases. I mainly lost all my time working on an overly complex Halloween costume and buying a new condo. You know normal everyday stuff.

At the beginning of the month of October, I managed to snag two great deals on NintendoAge forums. Here's the first one :

Game C I B Bought Value
Madden NFL 95 8 7 4 $5.00 $4.00
Mario All Stars 9 8 8 $50.00 $60.00
Mario Is Missing! 6 9 6 $25.00 $30.00
Super Mario Kart 8 9 7 $50.00 $55.00
Ms. Pac-Man 8 8 6 $10.00 $12.00
NBA Showdown 8 8 7 $5.00 $4.00
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island 7 9 9 $60.00 $70.00
Young Merlin 10 9 8 $20.00 $15.00
Ys III: Wanderers from Ys 10 9 8 $25.00 $30.00

SNES CIB Games

I paid 250$ for 9 SNES complete in box including classic titles like Super Mario Kart and Super Mario Allstars. All games were in really good condition except for a few like MS. Pac Man and Madden NFL 95 but those are less valuable games anyway. The highlight of the pickup is the minty Super Mario World 2 : Yoshi's Island. The box and manual are in extremely great shape but the cartridge has some scratch.

Not a steal, but those games will definitely take value over time.

I've been resisting the urge to upgrade my collection lately, but it was short lived. Three weeks ago, I decided I would go after a few lots that I found on forums or on ebay.

First up is Earthworm Jim. A guy on ebay was selling all his collections. There were some lots of random games and a few rare games in excellent condition. This game was the only one I could get my hands on.

Earthworm Jim

I paid 32$ for this game which is around the average this one sells normally. No steal there. Everything is in good shape and it even came with a poster. I could've gotten other games, but most of them sold for way too much. I saw a solid copy of Super Castlevania 4 go for almost 140$! That was way too much for me (I got a much better deal a few days after that, but that's for another post).

Just got a fresh batch of CIB games!

I've been looking through the NintendoAge for a while now. Finally, I came across few ads that interested me, but I never was fast enough to snag a deal. Finally, I did manage to buy 5 Super Nintendo games complete in the box in excellent condition.

Game C I B Bought Value
Breath of Fire 10 7 8 $50.00 $55.00
Donkey Kong Country 10 9 9 $30.00 $40.00
Legend of Zelda, The: A Link To the Past 10 7 8 $60.00 $60.00
Mortal Kombat 10 9 7 $10.00 $20.00
Mortal Kombat II 10 9 9 $10.00 $20.00

The near mint games of my SNES collection

It cost me 160$ dollars, excluding shopping, for near mint games. I didn't overpay any of them, which seems to be new for me, and some might be even worth more since they are in such great condition. Few of them are missing the cardboard tray but it's easy to buy some and add them to the boxes. Also, it's important to note that none of them are player's choice edition.

With those additions, I now have duplicate cartridges for three games. I might try to sell them in a near future in order to make a buck or two. Until then, I might take a break from game hunting for a bit. In only one month, I went from 2 bad shaped games to around 28 good conditioned games so I'd say I did a good job, for the moment.

Here comes a big pack of games!

I saw this ad on Kijiji in my area. 600$ for 18 sealed games where most of them were near mint. I gave it a try and managed to lower the price down to 400$. I thought I'd made an extremely good deal. Turns out that probably those games weren't factory sealed, but resealed. Still, most of them are in really good shape.

Game C I B Bought Value
Al Unser Jr.'s Road to the Top 10 10 8 $15.00 $12.00
Bill Walsh College Football 10 10 8 $10.00 $6.00
F1 ROC 2: Race of Champions 10 10 8 $10.00 $12.00
Hardball III 10 10 9 $10.00 $8.00
Hit The Ice 10 10 9 $40.00 $45.00
Justice League Task Force 10 10 9 $55.00 $30.00
Kyle Petty's No Fear Racing 10 10 8 $20.00 $12.00
Madden NFL '94 10 10 9 $5.00 $7.00
NBA All-Star Challenge 10 10 9 $10.00 $8.00
NBA Jam 10 10 9 $25.00 $25.00
NFL Quarterback Club 10 10 9 $10.00 $8.00
Olympic Summer Games 10 10 8 $20.00 $16.00
Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure 10 10 8 $25.00 $20.00
Pro Sport Hockey 10 10 7 $10.00 $8.00
Star Trek Deep Space Nine: Crossroads of Time 10 10 7 $30.00 $16.00
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Future's Past 10 10 7 $30.00 $20.00
Turn & Burn: No Fly Zone 10 10 9 $15.00 $12.00
WCW Super Brawl Wrestling 10 10 7 $60.00 $40.00

So yeah... basically I went into this thinking I was buying brand new games. Turns out that after the deed, I learned that probably most of those games were resealed. How do I know? They are all sealed the same way with a seam line on both larger sides and one on the small side. Most of Super Nintendo game don't have that much lines. Even if the games are in really good condition, I overpaid for some of them. About 100 bucks over the actual value of everything, sadly. But, I guess I learned my lesson the hard way.

Overpriced resealed games

As you can see, all the games are, at least, in solid condition. With this condition, I assume that the cartridge and the inserts are mint condition. So I paid 400$ for about 320$ worth of games. If those are actually new, which I don't think they are, they should valuate around 500 bucks. I have few rare games like Hit The Ice and WCW Super Brawl Wrestling which should take value as time goes by.

Still, those are high quality CIB so I'm not pissed about the transaction. It just shows that again, I need to research more before buying.

Yeah...

So... I saw this game, one I've never seen before. I thought it was rare and that the 20$ tag was a steal. Was I wrong. The Adventures of Mighty Max was not the bargain I thought it was.

The Adventures of Mighty Max

Everything looked good from the outside, but it was not what I expected. The game is rare, but is not worth as much as what I paid when it's complete. The shape of the game is not that good which explains my regrets.

Box

The box has some normal tear in the corners but the cover has some folds that are visible. There are even the marks left by a big round sticker in the top right corner. That's why I give the box an average score of 5 out of 10.

Cartridge

The cartridge is in good condition, except for the back. There's a big sticker on it, probably from a location store. I cannot remove it or it will tear the back label in the process. For that reason only, I can only put a score of 5.

At first, I thought it was complete except for the cart holding cardboard, but there's no manual. 20 bucks for an average box and an incomplete game. Still, maybe one day, when I won't be able to find a better version of this game, I'll be happy with my purchase.
